Plan Your Sail: What's Included

Your cruise fare is mostly all-inclusive and includes the following:

Ships Equipment

The use of all ships equipment is fully included in the cost of your cruise.  Below is a partial list of our "toys."

Snorkel equipment: Liberty Clipper is fitted with ample snorkel gear.

Masks and snorkels: We have an assortment of masks.  If you know that your face is especially "hard to fit" and you have a mask that works well for you, we suggest you bring it.  Otherwise, our masks will work great for you!
Fins: We have quite the collection of fins.
  • Sea Kayaks: Liberty Clipper carries 2 two-person sea kayaks that you are welcome to use!
  • Small Sailboat: We have a hand crafted peapod sailing dinghy that you can sail with or without help from our crew.
  • Small Boat: We have a 7-person inflatable speed-boat.  This will be our "liberty launch" to take you ashore daily from our anchorages.

Meals and Beverages

All your meals on the ship are included with your cruise as well as all ships water and juice, coffee and teas with meals.  All alcohol, canned soda and bottled water is extra.

Meal service by day: (On a tall ship, the schedule is always "ish...")

Sunday: At our Captain's welcome reception at 5pm, we offer a welcome aboard fruit and cheese platter and provide the drinks. Guests are responsible for their own dinner ashore on Sunday night.

Monday - Friday: We feature full menu service

Breakfast: We'll have a continental breakfast served early with a full breakfast to be served at about 8am.
Lunch: Lunch is generally served at about 12pm, but that will vary some days depending upon the ships schedule.
    Afternoon snack: Chef's choice!
Dinner: Served every evening at meal time usually around 6pm.
Dessert: If you have room for it, we'll serve it to you!

Saturday: Breakfast before disembarkation at 11am.

Beverages: Guests are not permitted to consume their own alcohol aboard the ship, however, you are welcome to purchase souvenirs for transport home.  Our Captain is happy to show you where to buy the best local Rum!

Full Bar Drink Pass: We have an open bar option available for 0/person for the week that covers all beverages we offer on the ship.  This is a per person pass, so unfortunately, you can't buy other people drinks with your pass.  This includes soda and bottled water.Soda/Water Drink Pass: For /person, you can have open access to all sodas and bottled water on the ship.Pay as you go: If you'd prefer to pay for only those items that you consume, we will run a tab during the week for you.  Soda/Bottled water is .00 each; Beer, wine and cocktails range from .00 - .00 each.

Port Fees

In The Bahamas, we calculate our port fees at 5% of your total package price.

Gratuities

While never required, it is customary to tip the crew between 10-15% of your cruise cost.  We provide our guests with the option to pre-pay a gratuity or pay at the end of the cruise with either cash or a credit card.

Bahamas Cruise Travel Information

Cruise Boarding / Disembarkation Times

  • Boarding: In the Bahamas, all of our cruises board at 5:00pm on the first day of the cruise, typically Sunday.
    • If you arrive early, just stop by the ship and drop off your bags before heading out to explore Nassau.
  • Disembark: We disembark all Bahamas cruises at 10:00am on the last day of the cruise, typically Saturday.

Flights

Fly to Nassau International Airport ("NAS") also known as the Lynden Pindling International Airport.  Most major airlines serve Nassau.  We caution against the use of Bahamas Air as they have been reported to cancel flights last minute.

  • Arrival: If you are flying from an area where winter storms can be expected, we suggest that you fly in a day before the start day of your cruise and stay overnight in Nassau.
  • Departure: We disembark at 10:00am, so please do not plan to book a return flight before 1:00pm to allow time to get to the airport and clear customs, immigration and security.

Passports & Currency

A valid passport is required to travel to the nation of the Bahamas.  The Bahamas does not require VISAs for United States, Canadian and European travelers.  If you have any questions, please refer to the State Department in your country.  Currency in the Bahamas is the Bahamian Dollar which is fixed at a one to one exchange ratio with the United States Dollar.  US Dollars are accepted everywhere in the Bahamas, so if you are from the US, you do not need to exchange currency in advance.

Hotels

If you would like to extend your stay in Nassau, we recommend the following island hotels:

  • Comfort Inn & Suites: This is a nice hotel located on Paradise Island near the Atlantis.  If you stay at the Comfort Inn & Suites, you will receive full access to the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.  You're welcome to use our corporate code "600235."  Please note, to use the corporate code, you will need to call the hotel on the telephone to make your reservation as their online system does not accept the corporate code.
  • The El Greco: Located in downtown Nassau. This is a budget hotel with standard rooms at approximately 0+ tax and suites at about 0 + tax.
  • Towne Hotel: This gem is located in downtown Nassau and is convenient to everything Nassau has to offer.  This is a budget hotel in a good location.

Things to do in Nassau

There is a lot to see and do in Nassau if you want to extend your trip.  Here are a few brief suggestions that should get you through a day or two:

  • Dining and Entertainment:
    • The Cricket Club: A great locals spot for dinner and live music above the Cricket Field - this is a Liberty favorite!
    • The Fish Fry: Visit this collection of over thirty restaurants and bars.  Eat, drink and be merry.  No shoes, no problem! (www.fishfrynassau.com)
  • Atlantis Resort water park and beach.  Take a ride on the water-slide through the shark tank!
  • The Pirate Museum.
  • Fort Charlotte.
  • SCUBA Diving: If you'd like to SCUBA on your vacation, please contact Bahamas Divers.  They dock at the same marina as Liberty Clipper.

Joining Liberty Clipper in Nassau

Upon arrival in Nassau, take a taxi from the Nassau International Airport to Nassau Yacht Haven Marina (www.nassauyachthaven.com). Most cab drivers know where the Marina is located and you may refer to the map below. The cab ride should cost about and take about 30-minutes (depending upon traffic).  If you plan to arrive after 8:00pm, please let us know in advance so that we don't worry about you!

NYH-Map

One of our crew-members will meet you there to welcome you aboard the LIBERTY CLIPPER. We commence boarding at 5:00pm, however, if you arrive earlier, you can drop your bags off as you prepare to explore the island. You may call the ships cell phone at 242-421-4615 (your US phone will work here at a premium rate) if you have any questions upon arrival. You can also reach us in Boston at 617-742-0333 while in the United States. We suggest that you spend your free time Sunday afternoon/evening ashore exploring Nassau. We will not be providing meals aboard the LIBERTY CLIPPER on Sunday and will commence with full meal service Monday morning.

Bahamas Packing List

In preparation for your Tall Ship Sailing Vacation, you'll want to know what and how to pack!  We will provide all your linens, pillows and towels.

Liberty suggests that you pack is a soft sided duffel type bag.  Hard-sided suit-cases don't stow well on a tall ship, and you won't require that much stuff anyhow, you're going sailing and to the beach!  The weather in the Bahamas can vary depending upon the time of year, so please check our Bahamas Weather section to help plan, or look at the local forecast.

Items Recommended for all Guests

While you may not need all items on this list on any given cruise, you will be sailing on a tall ship in a marine environment, so it's better to be prepared and comfortable.

  • Shorts & bathing suits
  • Lightweight shirts & t-shirts.
  • Soft soled boat shoes or sneakers
  • Long-sleeve shirt & comfortable pants (protection from both sun and for evenings if it gets cool)
  • A light jacket
  • Sandals (we recommend sandals with an ankle strap for stability)
  • Personal toiletry items including shampoo & soap
  • Sunscreen
  • Camera (underwater if you plan to snorkel)
  • Reading materials
  • Sunglasses
  • Sun-hat or base-ball type cap for sun protection
  • Small flashlight
  • Notebook or personal diary

A note on motion sickness: Liberty Clipper is a large and stable vessel that was built specifically to carry guests on overnight windjammer cruises.  Our cruising grounds in the Bahamas are in shallower, protected waters which also helps limit the motion of the ship.  We do not sail in exposed open ocean waters and will remain within sight of land for much of your cruise.  Every aspect of our cruise is planned with your comfort and safety in mind.  That said, some guests may be particularly sensitive to motion sickness.  If you are concerned, we would encourage you to bring some prevention with you.  Dramamine and Bonine pills may work, but a Scopolamine Patch (prescription) tends to work much better.

Sailing Enthusiasts

If you would like to get more involved in sailing the ship or have long been an armchair sailor looking to try your hand at the art of sailing, you may want to bring a few extra items with you.  These are by no means required, our crew is here to sail the ship, but they are also here to teach and show if you'd like to get involved.  You'll be welcome to get as involved as you desire from hoisting the sails, taking the helm or even going aloft to sit atop the crows-nest.

  • Rigging knife (only if you want to practice knots / rope-work with crew)
  • Sailing Handbook
  • Favorite Sailing Book such as Two Years Before the Mast

Please remember, our crew are passionate about sailing and would love to show you the ropes and help you to get involved, just let them know you're interested and be ready for the thrill of tall ship sailing.

Storage aboard Liberty Clipper

You should pack in soft duffel bags to ensure ease of stowage and access during the trip. There is some storage under the bunks and a limited amount of hanging space in each cabin, but you
will find that keeping things in your "sea bag" is the easiest approach to seaboard living.

You will end up needed much less “gear” on the ship than you would imagine, so try to pack light. It will make travelling easier and make it easier to stow your gear on the ship.

Plan Your Sail: Travel Insurance

While travel insurance is not mandatory, it does make sense for some people and really comes down to personal preference and personal needs.

Reasons to consider travel insurance:
  • Family or medical needs
  • You're worried your flights may get cancelled due to severe winter weather
  • Overseas medical coverage
  • Help with lost baggage
  • Help with replacement papers if your wallet or purse is lost

If you decide you would like to purchase travel insurance, we recommend Travel Guard.  The Liberty is a licensed and authorized reseller and will be happy to help you.  You can call our office at 617-742-0333 to review coverage options or browse Travel's Guard comprehensive travel insurance offersings at Travel Guard's website at http://www.travelguard.com.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF OUR GUESTS:

To enjoy your cruise to the fullest we recommend that you be in general good health.  At the least, You must be able to climb up/down a ladder to access the below decks areas of the ship.  Additionally, you'll need to be able to descend our ships ladder to reach our inflatable boat (speed boat) which will take you ashore throughout the week as we explore.

REFUND POLICY:

If you should cancel for any reason with SIXTY (60) DAY NOTICE PRIOR TO DEPARTURE, your entire fare will be refunded less a 10 percent booking fee based upon the entire cost of the cruise. The reservations are NON-CANCELABLE AND NON-REFUNDABLE WITHIN 60 DAYS OF THE SAILING DATE. For your protection we recommend the purchase of travel insurance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Schooner Liberty Clipper, Inc., or their employees cannot be held liable for personal injury, delay, sickness, loss of personal property, strikes, armed conflict, criminal conduct by third parties, natural disaster, or additional expenses incurred due to weather, disruption of advertised schedules or other causes beyond its control. The right is also reserved to accept or reject any person as a trip participant and to make changes in the itinerary where deemed necessary for the safety and comfort of the guests and may cancel a trip at any time. Cancellation of a trip by us is very unlikely. In such a case, a full refund will be issued and the financial liability of either Corporation or employee shall be limited to the amount paid to the corporation. By making reservations and paying trip fees you agree to accept all terms, conditions and policies in this page and agree to be bound by their content.
