Enjoying Thanksgiving Under Sail on the Liberty Star in the BVI

Enjoying Thanksgiving Under Sail on the Liberty Star in the BVI

We just kicked off our season on the Liberty Star this past Sunday! We're having a blast so far and I can only imagine what treats that cook Sue has in store for us later today. We welcomed our guests aboard on Sunday evening at Red Hook and had a nice reception for them with some goodies from the galley and just one or two cold beverages...

On Monday morning, we started the week sailing from St Thomas to Jost Van Dyke and were able to visit Bubbly Hole that morning before heading ashore to Foxy's for a fun filled Monday night...  On Tuesday, we sailed across to Virgin Gorda stopping a few times along the way and spent the night anchored in Gorda Sound. I loved swinging in a hammock for the afternoon ashore at Leverick Bay. Yesterday, we spent the night at Trellis and went ashore to listen to a band - loved it!  Today we find ourselves sailing to Norman Island, we're going into the treasure caves and then to the Willie T's tonight for a little post turkey celebration.

It's that time of the season.....

It's that time of the season.....

With the leaves changing at our home office in Boston, it not only signifies the change in seasons from Summer to Fall, but the start of our transit down South and the beginning of our Bahamas and BVI’s Windjammer Cruise season! I had the wonderful opportunity to sail aboard as a deckhand last season. It’s really not just the fact that you are down in the Bahamas that makes it great, but the people you meet. There are several trips I think were my favorite, but the Junkanoo New Years trip really stands out. We had such a diverse and incredible group of people, all who shared the same interest…They wanted to LIVE FREE! While it only lasted a week, from waking up on the fore deck and seeing the beautiful sunrise over Rainbow Key, to paddle boarding out into the sunset. I’ll never forget that trip.

One other trip really stuck out in my mind, and that was when we had Dusty & Nicky aboard in February. They have traveled all over the world, and are renowned bloggers. I always say it’s hard to explain what you will experience in your week down in the islands with us, so I’ll let them tell you:

The best Caribbean vacation sailing with the Tall Ship Liberty Clipper

The best Caribbean vacation sailing with the Tall Ship Liberty Clipper

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the crew of the Liberty Clipper!  This was one of the best vacations I have ever had.  Climbing aloft, dolphins, the Schooner Olympics, playing games, getting lost in a book, sailing, learning, the wind, meeting the other passengers and crew, moon pods, snorkeling, paddle boarding, Jan's delicious food, playing the guitar, learning to play the ukulele (hardly), sunrise, sunset, playing, seeing Captain Matt in all his glory and dignity, spending quality time with my favorites-Megan, Kate, and Matt.  All in all the adventure and freedom of sailing!

Thank you all again for such a wonderful time.  This week was the best way to spend my 30th birthday.

A Caribbean Vacation to Remember aboard the Windjammer Liberty Clipper!

This trip sailing the Bahamas was fabulous!

A final treat was the 2 little puppies we picked up along the way.  They will have wonderful homes in the states. I hope you enjoy your adventure aboard the tall ship Liberty Clipper as much as we enjoyed ours. Kudos to the captain and crew.

Welcoming crew, felt like home after our 6 day trip aboard the Windjammer Liberty Clipper

Wow. Just wow. We didn't know what to expect on a Tall Ship cruise when we joined up with the Liberty Clipper at Nassau Yacht Haven. But from the time we boarded, till the time we left it was like stepping into our own home. The crew was amazing, so welcoming, yet so down to earth and knowledgeable. I will never forget them and the family we became.

Cheers to Jan and Sean for the food. Unbelievable!

Dream wedding on the Beach courtesy of a Tall Ship Windjammer in the Bahamas!

Dream wedding on the Beach courtesy of a Tall Ship Windjammer in the Bahamas!

We had our dream island wedding on board the Liberty Clipper.  It was better than our expectations.  Captain chose a perfect spot for the occasion.  Jan and Jason served a perfect dinner topped with a perfect rum cake.  The whole crew and all the passengers joined in the celebration and made our day a PERFECT day and as well as a memorable one.

A relaxing Windjammer barefoot Cruise in the Bahamas

A relaxing Windjammer barefoot Cruise in the Bahamas

What is Luxury?  It means many things to many people.  For us, a week in the Bahamas aboard the Liberty Clipper has been luxury!  To disconnect from a past paced life and reconnect with "life at sea" is a gift.  Sailing, true sailing, on Liberty Clipper allows us to feel the rhythms Mother Nature has so long played.  Snorkeling and swimming right off the ship gives us sweet glimpses of the beauties she offers for us who are lucky enough to enjoy them.  Mere humans are we!

Enough waxing like the moon-Pancho and I thank the great crew for taking good care of us and for being interested in the craft of tall ship sailing.  It is an admirable passion.  Thanks to Jan for providing fine meals from a small galley.

We loved having only 6 passengers and were lucky that we all got along well with much laughter and camaraderie.

We have been windjammer barefoot cruise people in the past, having sailed on the Yankee Clipper, the Polynesia and the Legacy.  They were lots of fun with lots of activities.  I liked this week aboard the Liberty Clipper because we did not have all that- so simple, so relaxing, so often quiet (except for Maggies giggles-so sweet)-so back to what's real.

Thank You all,

Amazing leadership, Captain and crew aboard my week long Tall Ship Windjammer Vacation in the Bahamas!

Amazing leadership, Captain and crew aboard my week long Tall Ship Windjammer Vacation in the Bahamas!
After being an airline captain for 15 years, I cannot begin to detail to consummate professionalism of Captain Christopher Shaw.  We are currently mid-week in our Bahamas Windjammer Cruise and I am overly impressed by his and his crew's consummate professionalism.  As an airline captain, I appreciate the importance of leadership and leading a crew.  Their standardization is bar none the best I have experienced.  Each maneuver is meticulously handled and there is no question Captain Shaw's command significantly belies his age.  I must say if I had my own boat there is no one I would have captain besides Captain Shaw and there is no question that your boat is in the hands of the most competent, safe captain available - it is truly something to behold.  I will take lessons from watching Captain Shaw manage his crew back to my 767 cockpit. I will plan on sending you a note at the end of the trip, but I asked for your e-mail mid-trip because I did not want to delay my commendation of his exceptional command skills.  Congratulations on choosing a superb Captain and crew, it says a tremendous amount in regards to your business acumen. I look forward to coming back for another Caribbean tall ship sailing cruise.

Regards,

Mary L.
