Captains Blog: Bringing in the New Year aboard the Schooner Liberty Star with Moku Jumbies, fire dancing and new friends
Greetings from St Thomas on the Liberty Star! What a great week down in the islands to bring in the new year with some great wind, sailing, and passengers. With the wind filling the sails and the rail in the water we made our way up to Virgin Gorda. Then it was nothing but smooth sailing from there as we made our way to some of the best spots in the islands and were able to stop to cool down in the water during the amazing snorkeling adventures.

It's hard to beat a New years party at Trellis with the local art community throwing an extravagant event with a great touch of local traditions and culture including Moku Jumbies, local music, and fire dancing.

Matching up a traditional touch of the islands with a traditional way of exploring them makes a memorable trip for all while even getting the passengers to help sail the boat down the Sir Francis Drake channel past all of the historic Virgin Islands. So make sure to come down and share the experience soon!

Enjoying Thanksgiving Under Sail on the Liberty Star in the BVI

Enjoying Thanksgiving Under Sail on the Liberty Star in the BVI

We just kicked off our season on the Liberty Star this past Sunday! We're having a blast so far and I can only imagine what treats that cook Sue has in store for us later today. We welcomed our guests aboard on Sunday evening at Red Hook and had a nice reception for them with some goodies from the galley and just one or two cold beverages...

On Monday morning, we started the week sailing from St Thomas to Jost Van Dyke and were able to visit Bubbly Hole that morning before heading ashore to Foxy's for a fun filled Monday night...  On Tuesday, we sailed across to Virgin Gorda stopping a few times along the way and spent the night anchored in Gorda Sound. I loved swinging in a hammock for the afternoon ashore at Leverick Bay. Yesterday, we spent the night at Trellis and went ashore to listen to a band - loved it!  Today we find ourselves sailing to Norman Island, we're going into the treasure caves and then to the Willie T's tonight for a little post turkey celebration.

Two adventurers take on the Schooner Liberty Clipper in the Bahamas. Windjammer Vacation cruise off the bucket list now!

At the end of one of our most memorable weeks ever. The sailing, the snorkeling, the relaxing, the adventure, the passengers, the crew, the beautiful Liberty Clipper----We can't say enough how much we appreciate the opportunity to be here and experience it all for the Windjammer Cruise of a lifetime. Cheers especially to the amazing crew , who worked so hard to make sure all of us passengers were not only well taken care of-but that we could also get out, explore, and cross more dreams off our bucket lists, and make memories for ourselves that will truly last us our lives.

God bless you guys and this beautiful ship!

Didn't know what to expect sailing on a Tall Ship in the Bahamas, but it was amazing!

Didn't know what to expect sailing on a Tall Ship in the Bahamas, but it was amazing!

It's already been said on previous pages, but I feel exactly the same.  I LOVED the crew, the cruise, and the places we explored.  The food was excellent and the crew helpful, courteous and professional.  I'd never been on a sailing vessel before; so I didn't know what to expect.  Loved it all!  It was especially nice that we only had to share everything with a limited number of guests.  Good luck in your future endeavors.

Great chemistry, friends, food and more aboard my windjammer sailing adventure in the Bahamas

Great chemistry, friends, food and more aboard my windjammer sailing adventure in the Bahamas

What a wonderful 6 days aboard the windjammer Liberty Clipper! Having never sailed before, we knew we were about to embark on a truly remarkable experience, however were not prepared for how much more special the crew was to make our trip sailing the Bahamas.  Chris, John, Sean, Clint, Jan, Jason, Maggie, Amanda and Mike- a truly spectacular crew, their professionalism and team chemistry was impeccable, yet their courtesy and involvement with each of the passengers made us feel like part of the family.  We will miss them all-until we come back!

Thank you all for a wonderful voyage! :)

P.S.- youl'll always have a free place to stay in Orlando :)

A wonderful windjammer cruise in the beautiful Bahamas

A wonderful windjammer cruise in the beautiful Bahamas

We had a GREAT TIME!!

It is so nice to be sailing the Exuma Islands and enjoying the salty fresh air.  The crew was wonderful, polite, and fun.  The water, the water was the blue that is so pleasing and soothing to the soul.  We went to some wonderful beaches like the ones you see on screen savers and travel shows.  The food was great!!! Then there is the Liberty Clipper, what a wonderful ship to take us on this wonderful experience sailing the Bahamas!

Amazing Sailing cruise in the Bahamas aboard a Windjammer!

Amazing Sailing cruise in the Bahamas aboard a Windjammer!

Our mission on this trip was to have the experience of being on a Tall Ship and finding clean beaches.  Both of these were accomplished.  One of the best parts of the trip is the CREW. They were very friendly and work well together.  Talking to Jan the cook was a lot of fun; she has nice stories, and she went out of her way to cook vegetarian food.  The experience was great.  I was not a big fan of getting into water with the swine, but that's just me, it seems like everyone else liked it.  I enjoyed the snorkeling events best.  The food was great.

Thanks a lot,

Isabel

Amazing week in the Exumas aboard the perfect windjammer

Amazing week in the Exumas aboard the perfect windjammer

WOW! What a week! We both agree sailing the Bahamas on a Tall Ship has been one of the best weeks of our lives. Our adventures around the Exumas included crystal clear waters, white soft sandy beaches, wild iguanas and swimming swine, as well as the colorful fish and exotic reefs.

The crew (including Captain Chris, Jon, Jan & Jason (chefs), Shawn, Clint, Amanda, Maggie & Mike) were AMAZING! Thanks for a fantastic week with so many highlights, we loved our Windjammer Cruise!

We will be returning from Australia to do it all again.

Lots of love,

The Aussies - Sarah & Luke xoxo

Former Captain takes on a Tall Ship sailing cruise in the Bahamas!

Former Captain takes on a Tall Ship sailing cruise in the Bahamas!

Captain Chris runs the ship with an easy going authority of one who knows his ship.  He made sure all the passengers had a great time.  The first mate was great also.  All of the crew were friendly and helpful.  Wyn and I enjoyed the trip and will recommend the Liberty Clipper to all.

Another bucket list checked off! Sailing on a classic tall ship for vacation in the Bahamas!

I had a barefoot cruise on my "bucket list," and now I have done that, in the Bahamas, thanks to the Liberty Clipper!  The weather was hot at first but the water was wonderful.  The crew was very good and nice to be with.  We had good food and great sailing, and Jon was fantastic with his wonderful knowledge of the boat and the Bahamas.  Captain Matt was also great and made all of us feel welcome.  We are looking forward to returning for a second time!

Roger and Marian

Thanks for a great cruise!
