Private Charters Aboard the Schooner Liberty Star

The Liberty Star is a beautiful 67’ wooden schooner commissioned in 1972 and completed in 1982 in Harrington, ME. Originally christened the Rachel B. Jackson after the shipwright’s grandmother, the Star is a replica of an 1890s coastal schooner with sturdy mahogany planking, oak frames, traditional pine and fir decking, and exotic wooden cabinetry recalling the workmanship of days gone by.

The Star is available to charter for a minimum of 1.5 hours*. The ship can accommodate up to 39 passengers in addition to its crew of three. Passengers are welcome to help raise the sails or simply sit back and enjoy the fresh harbor air with unbeatable views of historic Boston.

We have multiple bar options available for private charters, including cash/consumption, limited open, and full open. Send us an email or give us a call to discuss pricing and availability!

*Minimum 2 hours for evening sails

Location

This year we have relocated to Fan Pier Marina in the Seaport District. Right along the scenic Harbor Walk, this site provides a spacious area for boarding. We are close to several excellent restaurants as well as the Boston Children’s Museum and the Institute of Contemporary Art. There is also a beautiful waterfront park and playground right around the corner if you arrive early!

We ask passengers to gather for boarding at the top of the gangway leading down to the outer Marina dock (see inset below). This gathering area is just next to Reel House Oyster Bar’s outdoor seating and will be marked by a sign saying “Liberty Fleet Boarding”. Our crew will meet you at the top of the gangway and lead you down to the ship when it’s time to board. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early for your sail.

The Marina is a 20 minute walk from South Station or a 5 minute walk from the Courthouse bus stop on the MBTA SL1, SL2, or SL3 outbound bus lines (which run from South Station).

From the Aquarium we are a 25 minute stroll along the scenic Harbor Walk. We are also a 20 minute walk from the State House and Faneuil Hall.

There are multiple public parking garages within a few minutes of the Fan Pier Marina. “Spot Hero” can also help with locating an open parking spot. If you enter “10 Waterside Ave, Boston” into your map program it will bring you right to the boarding area.

Catering Options

Feel free to bring your own food aboard for the charter or use one of the excellent catering options below. Unfortunately, we cannot allow any outside beverages to be brought aboard due to our liquor license. Keep in mind if you are bringing your own food that it can get windy out on the water! Also large food trays will reduce the amount of cabin-top seating.

Above and Beyond Catering offers several budget-friendly options as well as high-end spreads, including an outstanding raw bar for cocktail parties. If you’re looking to serve a more casual lunch or dinner on board, Above and Beyond offers lunch and dinner “drops” – they’ll set up the food on deck before your event, but no servers will be present on board. Similarly, if you’re wanting a quick ‘grab and go’ lunch aboard for a shorter sail, consider their boxed and bagged lunch options.

Aceituna Grill is a five minute walk from our boarding area at Fan Pier Marina. They are a local family-owned and operated fast casual Mediterranean restaurant. Specialties include Levantine favorites like shawarma (marinated chicken or beef & lamb with house spice blend slow cooked to perfection on a vertical grill), hummus, baba ganoush, tabbouleh, and an amazing vegan and gluten-free falafel. Their menu can be catered as a buffet or ordered as individual boxes, including pita roll-up sandwiches. Their Seaport location is closed on Sundays.
